Why is my payment different from the export I can see?
If the amount we paid you for an event does not quite match the export figure you can see in your battery app or with your energy supplier, there is a straightforward reason, and nothing has gone missing.
We pay you for the change your property makes to the grid
The figure we pay you on is your net contribution to the grid across the whole event: the amount your property actually added to the grid over the event period, once anything it drew back has been taken into account. This is the real change your property made to the grid.
There are two reasons this can come out lower than the figure you see.
The first is that your battery discharging is not the same as your property exporting. Electricity leaving your battery serves your home first, and only what is left over goes out to the grid. So if your battery is discharging while your home is using electricity, part of that discharge never reaches the grid at all, it went to your home instead.
The second is that we look at the event as a whole, not at a single moment in it. If your property exports for the first part of an event and then draws electricity in from the grid for the rest of it, both fall inside the event window. During the part where you were importing, your property was adding to the strain on the grid rather than relieving it, and that counts against the total in the same way the export counted for it.
The larger export number you can see is your gross export, which is the total your battery sent out. It is real, it is just one side of the picture.
This sits on top of your normal energy arrangement
Your event reward is separate from, and additional to, your usual supply. Your energy supplier still pays you for your export and charges you for your import during the event, exactly as it always does. So the electricity your home uses during an event is already accounted for in your normal bill, and your Axle reward for your net contribution to the grid is on top of that.
Small differences are normal
You may also notice very small differences that come from rounding, or from exactly where a reading falls at the half hour boundary. These are normal, and they usually amount to no more than a tiny fraction of a unit.
